The Flower of Love: Celebrating the Carnation
My earliest memory of Carnations was back in high school in the 80's. They were at the center of every prom corsage and boutonnière and always in the company of Baby's Breath. They are also still popularly used in grade school science experiments by placing the stem in a mixture of food coloring and water until its petals change color.
As of recent, this sweet and graceful flower is making a come back...they are popping up in gardens, friendly vases, party centerpieces and even delicate wedding bouquets. Known as the "heavenly flower" or "flower of love," Carnations can be often found at Trader Joes at a reasonable price. And you will LOVE how long they last in your vase.
Here are some examples of Trader Joe's Carnations I photographed. The light green are my favorite color.
